The Bright Side of Life

(Via Asos)

Have you heard neon is going to be a big thing? I was less than convinced until I saw a lady in the most delectable neon orange chiffon pleated midi skirt this morning. I think I might actually have started drooling. It was so utterly fabulous. And she had paired it with the most incredible purple strappy heels, which were so delicious I wanted to run up to her and shoe-mug her. Seriously.

The look was only failed by the addition of a black leather jacket which was too harsh a contrast.

But otherwise, I was loving the brights.

My Old Duch(ess)

(Via Go Fug Yourself)

Oh for the love of God, is this not the creepiest thing you have ever seen in all your live long days?

Short Shrift

I like the whole Thom Browne thing. You know, the short cut trousers and jacket sleeves. I think it can be very elegant. As long as you are doing it deliberately.

Trousers that are too short because you've just bought the wrong size is lazy and utterly unappealing. Team that with ugly shoes and we have the uniform of many, many men.

Sort it out. I'm sure it can't be that hard. Particularly when you've presumably spent a fair wack on a suit, just get it right, get them properly tailored. I implore you.

Blaze a Trail

(Via Reiss)

Certain urges I have come and go. I feel lusty thoughts. I resist them. Lusty thoughts go away. Even if I see the item in the sale, the desire is dead and will not be stirred.

But then others lie merely dormant waiting for an excuse to rise up and pounce. You know, kinda like a zombie. Hmmm, except they're kind of dead, aren't they? Excuse me, I'm trying to be too clever for my own good.

But anyhoo... I was looking for a jacket a while back and couldn't find anything that fit the bill. And I once fevered for a boyfriend jacket but resisted as they didn't love my curves. Then this morning I saw a girl on my way into work wearing broderie anglaise and a fitted palest pink blazer and HA! the lusty was on me once again.

(Via Asos)

Is it foolish to think about buying a pale jacket in old pollutin' London town, with my ability to liberally decorate myself with stains? Plus it is a look that works better with a trouser, which in turn don't play nice with me... What a quandary. I think I'll just have to go and try on the Reiss number, at which point it will inevitably look hideous on me and the whole discussion will be null and void.

Sorry for wasting your time.

Full Circle

(Via Asos)

I know it wasn't that long ago that I said I was horrified by the thought of separates for a/w, but I've been seeing a lot of full circle skirts and fine, loose vest tops tucked in with flats and I really like the look.

Patron Saint

(Nigel Shafran via MAP Ltd)

How sad. Central Saint Martins is moving from Charing Cross Road. It just seems wrong that it won't be there any more. I must have walked passed it a thousand times since living in London and it always reminds me of what a great institution it is and how many incredible designers studied there. They are moving to something state of the art in King's Cross. Wrong, wrong, wrong! No?

Get it (Vuitt)on

(Via the Clothes Whisperer)

Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!! I want these shoes so bad. Aren't they awesome?!

Hit the Hai(lee)

(Via Daily Telegraph)

Gosh darnit! Hailee Steinfeld in the new Miu Miu ad is just too adorable for words.

Take Anything on Faith

(Via Holy Moly)

That's what she would have us do, but it's not going to wash with me, missy. Go and put on some trousers, de-front-wedgie those paint on shorts, devest yourself of that leather mosaic and net curtains top and trash that dead bird hat and then maybe we can talk.

Maybe.

Body Talk

I'm not alone in thinking these bodysuits are beyond hideous, am I?

Honestly, I can't fathom any excuse for their existence.

(Via American Apparel)

Not a one.

* Oh and by the way, apologies for the nipple, but I thought it illustrated my point on how awful they are. And for any men reading this - you're welcome. *

Cotton On

(Via Hairdressers Journal)

I'm bored of festival fashion, so I won't go over what people were wearing. But I would just like to point out how utterly fabulous Ferne Cotton's hair was. The colour and the length are really perfect. I think I might go a little bit blondier again...

Summer Loving

Dude. It got hot! And how.

Instead of matching the weather I went with my mood, and wore black. No, that's overstating the mark, but I definitely wasn't feeling sunny enough for colour or pattern as I picked my outfit this morning.

Like most of the women of London, though, I did pick a dress. And most of the ladies I saw looked lovely. Much more so than the poor misguided ones in denim cut offs, obvs.

But the girls who looked the best today, to my mind, were the girls wearing something similar to this. Peg cut 7/8ths chinos with a pretty patterned top and a simple slightly masculine shoe.

(Via River Island)

It's got me craving. Even though I don't really suit a peg. But a summer trouser dressed up with feminine tops might actually lure me in to the shops even while the sales are on. Because you know how I feel about those.

Wide Boy

(Via Paul Smith)

Swoon! I love these palazzo pants. They are soooooo wiiiiidddde. And the whole boyish thing is super cute too though definitely not my style. If only they wouldn't make me look like I was knee high to a grasshopper and twice as wide. Which I know they would. Then I'd snap them up like a shot.

Cold Shoulder

(Via Edinburgh Woollen Mill)

I'm going to the Lake District tomorrow and I think I have made a grievous error. While I'll be all set in my walking togs, I even have waterproof trousers that have poppers down the side for when it's raining but you still want to practise your Chippendales dance moves, I don't think I have enough layers for the rest of the time. I just checked the forecast and it is going to be in single figures. Ack!

Desperately scrabbling around on the internet trying to find sweaters I found myself at a loss. But fortunately, I'll be in the lakes, and it seems that if they do anything there that isn't mountains or lakes or BMX Potter, as my brother used to call her, then it is hardy knitwear.

I googled clothes shops in Ambleside and up popped the Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Lakeland Sweaters. Maybe it will be ok after all. Phew!

Hell for Leather

Hmmm, inspiration can sometimes come from mysterious places. I wouldn't, for example, look to the residents of TOWIE for sartorial know how, unless, you know, I wanted advice on getting my baps out. But I like what Sam Faiers is working with the floaty skirt and the cropped leather jacket.

I think I would probably rather go for a paler, prettier colour. But I really like the idea of wearing a leather jacket with a dress or skirt like that.

I particularly like these two pink and cream ones.

Worn open but fitted at the waist over a smart dress and heels could look really cute.

What do you think? Could I carry it off? My look is definitely more pretty and feminine, but I quite like the idea of toughening things up like this.

(Via the Outnet)

I might have set myself a little challenge...!

Peep Show

(Via Daily Telegraph)

I was just out this very lunch, yes! this very one! And I decided that what I really needed above all else was a nude ankle boot.

Don't ask me why. I'm impulsive. I'm not in control of what I lust after.

Then when I returned I saw this pair by Deena & Ozzy. I think they might well be perfect. Yay!

Keep Your Hair On

I know that Rihanna's Only Girl in the World video was out ages ago, but I've caught it on tv a couple of times recently, and I have to say I love the red hair.

The big red, curly, crazy Sideshow Bob style hair.

I hope she keeps it and doesn't go back to the severe black bob.

It's just so much prettier this way. Even if it isn't her actual hair.

Head in the Sand

(Via Net a Porter)

Am I being really slow? Has Diane von Furstenberg being doing bags? If so maybe I just hadn't seen one I liked before. But that's all changed. I am loving this ostrich-effect little number. And it's less than 400 knicker. Bargain!

Draw a Blank

(Via Net a Porter)

This, apparently, is a rabbit fur cap. To me it just looks like someone has drawn a bowl haircut in permanent marker on a picture of a mannequin.

Take it to the (Duchess of Cam)bridge

(Via Harper's Bazaar)

Dear HRH, the Duchess of Cambridge

Be a love and stop wearing things from Reiss. I would like to get on to their website again at some stage in the not too distant future. Thanks awfully.

Out of S(h)orts

I've been seeing a lot of this going on. I know the weather is constantly changing at the moment. I know that it is almost impossible to be suitably dressed for the day's temperature.

I know these things. But I really don't think this is the answer.

Is it Alexa's fault?

Or Alice's?

Both these pictures are old though, aren't they? At least a year old I would have thought. Does it take that long to drip through?

But whatever the inspiration I think it is fair to say that I am enormously displeased.

Beetle Mania

These little beasties caught my eye on Saturday as I was sauntering through Soho. Particularly the stag beetle ring above. I'm am not really a fan of real bugs, but I think these silver ones are really adorable. And the ring might have to be mine.

You know me, I like my jewellery to be a bit lairy.

They are designed by Yasmin Everley.

The range also includes spiders which freaked me out, ants and flies. Hmmm? Maybe not so tempting.

(Via Joy Everley)

But the beetles, the beetles I love.

Iman After My Own Heart

How did Iman get to be so damn cool?

(Via Daily Telegraph)

Knock on Wood

I ventured into the utterly delicious Nicholas Kirkwood shop on Mount Street on Saturday.

And it was love. I might, in fact, have swooned.

I would like any of these pairs.

They are so heavenly, how could you choose?

But if I had to it might well be the ones below. How sexy are they going to make your feet look?

(Via Nicholas Kirkwood)

And as much as I love Camilla Skovgaards I tried on a pair straight after languishing in the presence of the Kirkwoods and I think they were blown out of the water. Hmmm, might start playing the lottery.
