Out of S(h)orts

I've been seeing a lot of this going on. I know the weather is constantly changing at the moment. I know that it is almost impossible to be suitably dressed for the day's temperature.

I know these things. But I really don't think this is the answer.

Is it Alexa's fault?

Or Alice's?

Both these pictures are old though, aren't they? At least a year old I would have thought. Does it take that long to drip through?

But whatever the inspiration I think it is fair to say that I am enormously displeased.

Jean Genie

Thank you to the attendees of Coachella for reminding me how much I hate denim short-shorts/hotpants/cut-offs, which ever your preferred moniker.

Whatever you call them they're hideous.

I really hope this is not a sign of festival fashion for the rest of the summer.

Honestly, I just don't think I could take it.

Jack(et) the Lad

Holy mackerel! I don't think I have ever coveted something so much in my life. I surely should own this, shouldn't I? Over cute floral dresses with the cuffs rolled up? Swoon!

Make Hay While the Sun Shines

Not that the sun is shining, but if it were, I rather think that I would want to be wearing this

And this

And maybe dirtying it up with these (aka my new favourite shoes).

But despite the fact at is my birthday which should surely ensure perfect weather, it is also Bank holiday Monday which ensures that the weather will be apocalyptic. So these warring factions mean a grey dull day. At least it isn't raining, that would ruin the suede of my clogs. So I'll take it.

Lose Your Shirt

I'm so contrary. I always wanted to be one of those women with a signature style and a signature scent and a capsule wardrobe.

I thought I would be crazy in what I wore for a while and then become unspeakably elegant and grown up. With that signature style. But I'm 30 now, and I am resigned to the fact that that is probably never going to happen. I am far too much of a Geminian, split-personality, bored easily kind of girl. And that goes for my wardrobe too.

So while it probably wasn't that long ago that I spoke of how me and the denim weren't particularly friends and that I should reconcile myself to that fact (to which you agreed), I now find myself absolutely craving, I mean really yearning for a milky pale, butter soft denim shirt.

Kind of like this one by longer and slouchier, a bit more of a delinquent, to wear belted over floral dresses or skirts with a simple pair of plimsolls, for wearing while I am cycling around the countryside, falling into piles of drying hay and fumbling with beautiful farm boys and getting chafed knees and straw in my hair... You know... like I do.

Pure As the Driven Snow

Snow-washed denim?? What, because stone-washed denim wasn't heinous and eye searingly ugly enough?
Why! Thanks!

Short Reprise

(Image via Fashion Squad)

I do like a short yes! But not on me. NEVER on me in fact. I haven't worn such a thing since about 1992 and that's the way it's going to stay. Actually I'm completely lying, I do have a pair but they're kind of long and baggy but tailored, but not quite a culotte. They sound pretty bad just explaining them akshully. They make me look like a squat goth boy scout, but I always drag them out at least once during the summer and then regret it about 20 minutes after leaving the house in them when passers by stare and point and ask where my woggle is. I am prepared to try a cut off denim with a tanned leg a la Julia Restoin-Roitfeld when safely ensconced in some Greek hideaway where only people whose sun tan lotion is dripping in to their eyes will see me and I won't look so bad.

Go for it though I say. I particularly like the one from Whistles. The To'Sho pair seem a bit - wide. Sort of flappy, but I like the slim proportions of the first pair a lot.
Will you wear them with a tight or a bare leg though? I'm not completely convinced on a short with a tight. I like a straggly cut off denim with an opaque and a fierce heel, but I' not mega keen on something more tailored with a covered up leg. There is no real reason why not, it just seems a bit interseasony. Not quite THIS interseasony but, you know?
