Summer Loving

Dude. It got hot! And how.

Instead of matching the weather I went with my mood, and wore black. No, that's overstating the mark, but I definitely wasn't feeling sunny enough for colour or pattern as I picked my outfit this morning.

Like most of the women of London, though, I did pick a dress. And most of the ladies I saw looked lovely. Much more so than the poor misguided ones in denim cut offs, obvs.

But the girls who looked the best today, to my mind, were the girls wearing something similar to this. Peg cut 7/8ths chinos with a pretty patterned top and a simple slightly masculine shoe.

It's got me craving. Even though I don't really suit a peg. But a summer trouser dressed up with feminine tops might actually lure me in to the shops even while the sales are on. Because you know how I feel about those.

Square Peg in a Round Hole

(Via River Island)

I want to find a pair of slim leg trousers to wear with my Isabel Marant rip-off shoes (which are proving alarming hard to find, apparently the obvious reality that these are the shoes we all want not clompy platforms has yet to reach the ears of high street retailers. Gah!) Instead I have found these nice pegs. I thought with a brogue and a pretty, possibly floral, chiffon shirt they would do quite well for work. Except they pull ever slightly at the pleats and I would have to go up a size to prevent that.

Should I just take the hint that they are not for me, or just go up a size and have done with it? Are people still wearing pegs? Are they still, you know, OK?

Taken Down a Peg or Two

(Image via Asos)

I found the most delectable pair of beigey brogues from Bertie the other day. They are studded with holes and go from a pale beige to a dark brown at the tips. The colour fading makes them look almost vintage, nicely aged.

I like the thought of wearing them with a pair of peg chinos.

But I think I need to be resigned to the fact that to really rock a more boy look it helps to have a boy body. But the various projecting bits of me (boobs, hips, bum) do rather stand in the way of elegant androgyny. Which irks me somewhat.

I wonder if I made the top half more feminine if I could get away with it, though.

Skinnies You Say?! Allll whiiiiiite!

(Image via The Sartorialist)

Woah! It's one of those days! Hooray!! I absolutely adore that shoe. I almost bought them myself last month actually, I do like an Oasis shoe. They always look way better than average high street fayre. I decided against them because they were a more taupe than grey and I was being overly specific in my shopping in an attempt to curb my recently horrific spending.

But they're glorious so get them. And go go go on the white jean too. Mega! Weirdly, my disagreement with the peg trouser is over too. A colleague mentioned that I looked like a glamorous painted 'n' decorator last time I wore them. FOR REAL! My mouth gaped open and I shrieked 'BUT I'M WEARING A LIP AND A HEEL FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!' to which he looked hurt and replied 'I did say glamorous'. Some PEOPLE!!
