The Grinch Who Stole Summer

Stay back! I'm warning you. I'm in a vile mood.

It is totally unrelated to the summer. But summer fashions have been seriously getting my goat today and I'm afraid you will have to listen to me rant.

Gripe No. 1: Slingbacks

Slingbacks that don't stay on your feet. Straps determined to hang out under rather than around your foot and fly off when you are trying to dart into the traffic. Gah!

Gripe No. 2: Bikinis under dresses

No, you are not Rihanna. No, you are not on the beach. No, you will never be a friend of mine.

Gripe No. 3: Maxi dresses

Is there anything worse than something that you used to love being so overplayed that you just can't bear to look at it anymore? I give you the maxi dress. Summer dressing by numbers and really really boring now.

So, have I ruined your day? Have I put you in a funk? Have I made you realise that you hate something too? Please feel free to share, I will listen in thanks for you putting up with me.

Awfully sorry, hopefully it will be business as usual tomorrow...

And it Was all Yellow

(Image via Oasis)

Isn't the weather terrible? (In England anyway, lucky you who are somewhere brighter.)

I am sad that I am developing webbed feet because they are going to make shopping for sandals even trickier than usual, but if the deluge continues I suppose that won't be too much of a concern.

But I am even sadder that there are lovely things like this dress that won't find a happy loving home because the weather is so heinous. I started off optimitically, yes, it might be bad now but it isn't really and truly summer yet. But the pessimists appear to be gloating now. They knew it was going to be a bad summer and they were right. It is July now and no improvement is on the horizon. So maybe it will just be wet and lovely summery treats will be consigned to the bargain bin. Sniff!

It's All Grecian To Me

I think I look pretty great in a long dress. I can whack an enormous pair of shoes underneath and look taller and slimmer, which is never a bad thing. And the colour of this dress makes me want to weep it's so pretty. And one I feel I can reclaim since I stopped being blonde. With a sexy pair of gold high heeled sandals and delicate gold jewellery it could be super cute, right? But I'm never sure about Grecian. Does it always look a bit costumey? Or a bit beachy? I am going for understated, grown up elegance, not toga party.

Now the second dilemma, it is for a wedding. Is it too bridal? Or is it just pink enough not to hack anyone off?

Another options would be this navy dress. Also cute with gold accessories. Pretty, but it doesn't excite me quite as much.

Maximum Impact

What's in store for 2011?

Who can say?

Personally I feel it is going to be a pretty stellar year.

But then again I am feeling uncharacteristically optimistic at the moment.

One thing I am pretty sure of though, is that I need to get some maxi into my wardrobe asap.

I like the thought of a maxi with my new boots, a chunky knit and some kind of cropped jacket.

As long as the skirt isn't too long. Because a maxi that soaks up water off the street stops being quite as appealing.

I know. I've been there.

But I think any of these delightful numbers would make me very happy indeed. Plus there is really little point in giving spring/summer any serious thought as we still have at least two months of winter left to go. If not three.

Party pooper you say? Darling, I'm just being practical.

Angry as a Cut Snake

(Via River Island)

I tried on this dress yesterday. And I kinda fell for it. I love the length and the snuggliness (it is knitted). But I also love just how sexy it is. It is pretty fitted. Saucy but in a reasonably subtle way. Outline rather than actualities, know what I'm saying.

But does it remind you of this?

(Via Go Fug Yourself)

Coz this isn't good. Plus I tried a size down from the one I needed so it might have been a little too snug and a little too much like Amber Rose's creation for comfort. And if you remember what Mrs Rowan commented on it last September I'm pretty sure I don't want to look like a lumpen snake.

It's not a good look, right? So what are your thoughts, people? Amber Rose or rose tinted? AKA - cute or not cute?

Green With Envy

(Via French Connection)

I don't usually celebrate New Year. I find it utterly overrated and usually have a terrible time. This year I have some new found optimism, and am very much looking forward to it.

So, of course, my mind has come to dresses and shoes (which might be entirely pointless as it is possibly going to be fancy dress).

And this little number is just heaven. It kind of reminds me of the dress Keira Knightley wears in Atonement (the colour in the flesh is much closer to that than it appears here).

And that can surely be no bad thing.

While I think it is actually quite understated in terms of detail, going maxi does still seem to be quite dressed up. And seeing as I am a bit of a midget maybe the combination of length and heels and booze might be unwise with the eventuality of either me or a fellow partygoer treading on it and attempting to tear it off my body being quite high.

I can always dream though, right?!

Tools of her trade

(Image via Handbag.com)

Look! Mischa finally got it right. It frustrates me how often she doesn't quite look her best, I mean, she's got all the raw materials in spades. But she has totally nailed it this time. (Gosh, where are the DIY references coming from?)
It also makes me jealous, and I now desperately want to wear my maxi dress. But it is raining and it would soak up the filthy water like an eager, thirsty pair of Uggs. Then it would become so heavy I would barely be able to support the weight of it. Boo! Let's bring back the sun, shall we? Super!
