Money for Old Rope

(Via Whistles)

Nearly 200 knicker on a pair of espadrilles seems a mite steep for me. I am really into this pair, but ultimately espadrilles are a one season shoe, wouldn't you agree? They don't age well with the rope fraying easily. So I don't think they are worth spending that much money on. My mother would gasp at the colour combination (blood and bandages) but I do think they are very fetching. Quite grown up for a shoe of this type.

(Via Kurt Geiger)

Last week I saw a girl in a maxi dress with a pair like these. It added a real interest and insouciance to a very feminine outfit and I like that. But I also think, great for holiday, for the city? Not so much.

Run Amok

(Via Net a Porter)

OK, so you are thinking about doing some running, it's summer, the beach season is drawing near. What would be the ideal thing to wear?

Wet look leather tracky bums?

Hmm, no, I didn't think so. Ick!

McAdam Had 'Em

I'm not totally in love with Rachel McAdam's outfit here. But I love, love, love that ring. Anyone know where it's from? Undoubtedly beyond my budget, but it would be nice to know.

(Via Go Fug Yourself)

And d'you wanna know what else I'm in love with? This couple. Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen. Aren't they adorable together? Particuarly now that he looks like some wild mountain man. Grrrrr!

Buffalo Stance

(Via Daily Telegraph)

Oh dear God, tell me it's not true.

People aren't going to try and ressurect Buffalo boots, are they? I couldn't think of anything more hideous.

Cut to the Quick

See the dress on the left? Isn't it pretty? I'm wearing it today. And I'm regretting it for two reasons.

1) It is a summer dress and the weather has turned ugly to the extent that I now look like an idiot for wearing a summer dress.

2) Those lovely big cut outs that make it so fabulous are a total disaster. I have nearly torn myself out of it about 10 times today. Every pokey-outy thing I pass I manage to hook myself on. Well mostly door and drawer handles.

And the dress is getting destroyed. Little tears appearing every time it happens. There won't be anything left of it fairly soon.

Gah! Incredibly vexing.

Barnet Fair

Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Head for the hills! There's an invasion of hugely bouffanted women!

(Via Grazia)

The end is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calling all Brides!

Ha! Have you seen how all wedding dress shops have gone to the back of their cupboards and dusted down the dress they have that best matches Kate's and/or Grace Kelly's?

I bet when all brides who are getting married this summer and had already bought their dresses saw hers they cursed the choice they had made in some small way. But actually far better to have something different.

(Via You and Your Wedding)

Can you imagine what it is going to be like next summer? Long-sleeved lacey concoctions as far as the eye can see. I bet you anything. And you'll probably be glad that you didn't do the same. Because no matter who was your inspiration, you're going to look as though you nabbed it. And you don't want that on your big day. So go ahead, pick what you want.

But if you are going to steal, get one by Sarah Burton. One of the gargantuan, uber dramatic ones.

(Via Style)

Swoon! Wouldn't that be the most?!

Strait-Laced

(Via Whistles)

So it is nearly here! The wedding of my lovely Kate. And while I know I should wear something I already own and save my hard-earned I obviously want to buy something new.

I was lured into Whistles by this dress yesterday. And I had such high hopes. It is pretty, a skirt shape that would work for me and an interesting colour. It is almost a bit Christopher Kane, no? And I really like the little chiffon sheer panels which make it a bit more modern.

But there were two drawbacks.

Number 1: There were two other girls trying it on saying "Oh, I'm going to a friend's wedding". And honestly if there is anything that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention it is the prospect of wearing the same dress as someone else. You know, someone else who is there, not just someone else in the world ever. Who do I think I am? Daphne Guinness? Anyway, but as if that wouldn't be bad enough you would be wearing turguoise lace the same as someone else so it's not as though you could blend in and pretend that it wasn't really happening.

Number 2: It made me look completely insane. Like those Japanese girls who dress up like life sized dolls. It was just way too cutesy on me. I imagine with dark hair it might work better. But with my blonde and my big eyes I just looked like I was trying to regress back to childhood. And now that I am back on the look out for hot men I'm not entirely convinced that's the look that's going to reel them in.

So... long story short? I'm still looking/not looking, happily wearing something I already own... See?

Seventh Heaven

Last night Seven Dials in Covent Garden had a shopping event with a whopping 20% discount at participating shops, live music and cocktails. Lord knows I like to shop when I've had a few!

I started off slowly. A couple of pairs of tights from Tabio. My favourite tights ever that seemingly last forever, but are monstrously expensive.

Then I slowed off significantly. Nothing in Poste Mistress, even the Robert Clergerie flatforms couldn't lure me in, nothing in All Saints, mostly because the shop is so damn small and the staff were lounging around unhelpfully with their trendy haircuts, nothing in COS (I know, I couldn't believe it either).

And then I fell into Offspring.

Oops.

I will justify myself thusly:

The pair above will be perfect for walking into work and my regular walking into work pair are looking decidedly sorry for themselves.

And the ones below?

(Via Offspring)

Well, they are a pair of the limited edition Liberty print Nikes. And they are just so awfully pretty I couldn't not. So there.

Out of Print

Pretty prints? Too girly and coy? Or quirky pretty? With a hint of edge?

(Via Net a Porter)

If it's the latter then I would like this D&G dress.

(Via Liberty)

Or this Sessun Liberty print jacket.

I think either would be a delightful addition to my wardrobe.

Gala Bingo

I know that the whole fashion blogosphere is probably now discussing the Costume Institute Gala so I'll make this brief.

Anna Wintour - Star Trek

Thandie Newton - perfect. Always perfect.

Taylor Swift - skin disease.

Stella McCartney - muscular calves, horrible dress.

Zoe Saldana - hmmm, refreshing, like lemon sorbet.

Rihanna - Beyonce has lost her bootylicious crown. BOOM!

Naomi Watts - would look better if it was strapless. I hate the sleeves.

Madonna - surprisingly nice for once.

Liv Tyler - seriously, what are you trying to achieve with this? I don't understand on any level. Except for the clutch which I want. Want so bad.

Diane Kruger - she's got that Dietrich thing going on. Very glamourous.

Kristen Stewart - man life is hard when you get to wear designer frocks and go to fun events. Sucks to be you, huh, K-Stew?

Kate Hudson - I don't want to be mean to a heavily pregnant broad, but she looks like she just got out of the shower and with her straggly wet hair and slung a satin towel over herself. Just barely.

Jessica Alba - this reminds me of that clingfilm dress that Kate Moss wore about 15 years ago. And I don't think that is a good thing.

Jennifer Lopez - lovely colour, interesting shape, not sure about the shoulder corsages.

Gwyneth Paltrow - lady can rock a frock. Hard.

Ginnifer Goodwin - cute hair, fantabulous colour, something weird going on around the hips.

Freida Pinto - ??????????????????????????????????

Fergie - Married to the Mob vs. lacy lady toilet roll cover. And clearly she did something to nark her make up artist. Don't wanna do that, hun.

Dakota Fanning - overgrown princess fantasy on anyone older and less adorable. On her? Sweet as pie.

Christina Hendricks - lady, I know you have a massive rack, and that's not easy to dress (I hear you) but dear God could you have found anything less flattering?

Chloe Sevigny - for you darling, just a little dull.

Blake Lively - I just don't know. Mermaid? Toxic video? Ariel? All in all not cute. Particularly the shoes.

Beyonce - shhh! If you listen very carefully you can hear the air being forced out of her lungs and her ribs snapping ever so quietly.

(Via the Daily Telegraph)

Ashley Olsen - has she started working in an establishment with the word haus in the title? Very Germanic beer wench with those sleeves. But I have to say she really carries off the arse-high slit. Impressive.

What a Piece of Work

(Via Holy Moly)

For those of you who don't live in London or anywhere else that gets the free Metro paper I didn't want you to go without this in your life.

They ran this picture of Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon at the London premiere of Water for Elephants last night with this headline: R-Patz Gets a Flavour of Reese's Pieces.

Class.

Oh, And Another Thing...

(Via the Mirror)

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

Obviously.

Nail Your Colours to the Mast

(Via the Daily Varnish)

I saw a very chic lady on the bus the other day with a lilac nail. I'm not sure if this was a terrible idea but I have decided to copy her. But am I going to look like a crazed bridesmaid (rather than the most stunning bridesmaid that ever walked AKA Pippa Middleton)?

Beaten to the Pun(ch)

Faithful readers, you will know that I favour a punnish headline. I pride myself on finding the silliest possible title for each post.

So I hope you will take a minute to sit in silence and mourn these two corkers that I have seen in periodicals/newsletters that I hadn't thought of.

Number 1:
You Compleat Me

A story about the pleat trend. It's so simple and obvious and fabulous and gets extra kitsch points for referencing Jerry Maguire from a time long ago when we didn't think Tom Cruise was a complete nut job and only moments away from "doing a Gibson".

Number 2:
It Takes All Shorts

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!! How did I not think of this? Not that I write about shorts very often, with these hips, are you kidding? But still. That is a great, great headline. But, alas, not one of mine.

Thank you for letting me share. I know you feel my pain. Please feel free to send me other treats that catch your eye.
