Caught by the Fuzz

(Image via Net a Porter)

Would someone mind explaining to me why Marc Jacobs thought that in a world rife with war, natural disasters and financial crises, a sequin and fur lurid pink cardigan was necessary? Because, quite frankly, I can think of no excuse for it.

What a Muppet!

You know how much I love an animal in an oufit? Well I think the natural progression has to be talking puppet animals in outfits.

Particularly when we are talking the most fabulous Miss Piggy in couture. I am beyond excited about this film. Miss P plays the editor of a fashion magazine (naturally) and so gets to wear some fabulous outfits.

Numerous designers have been making outfits for her.

And she got a fashion spread in InStyle.

How cute do her trotters look in these shoes?

Fabulous Jason Wu flapper dress...

Hanging out with Marc Jacobs...

Swathed in Prada...

If I didn't love her so much I would be seething with jealousy.

The Best is Paillette to Come

Marc Jacobs and Prada brought us paillettes for autumn/winter. And they look fabulous. But I wasn't convinced they had a practical real life application.

Until I found this puppy. Isn't it heaven? Statementy with the paillettes (which make the most delightful rustling sound) but neutral coloured. With a pair of cropped cigarette trousers and a lady like heel, I think we are on to a winner for a night on the town outfit.

And where did I procure this beauty? Good old M&S. Would you Adam and Eve it?! Dead chuffed I was when I found it. Just need to make some friends here so I can be invited out somewhere I can wear it.

Print and Proper

 Dries van Noten

Gosh, looking at all that lovely pattern does make me think that my wardrobe could do with a bit of jujing up. Hmm, that's not a word, is it? But you know what I mean.

Holly Fulton

And there is so much to choose from.

 Isabel Marant

I just have to work out if I am brave enough to do it justice. I suspect you can't be a shrinking violet.

 Jonathan Saunders

Particularly with impalas leaping around all over you.

That Hits the Spot

It has happened. I have succumbed to the first a/w trend.

No prizes for guessing which one.

(Via Style.com)

Yup, it is the polka dot. Not courtesy of Marc Jacobs, sadly.

But from Comptoir des Cotonniers, the dress on the right.

Oh yeah! Roll on autumn!

Chock-a-Block

But if the block heel is going to be part of the autumnal mix, then maybe it won't hurt quite so much.

I want this Marc by Marc Jacobs boot baaaaaaaaad. They'd be cute on me, right?!

(Via Net a Porter)

And Bally! Who knew they had become quite so cool? Oh, ok, quieten down! Maybe I'm just a bit slow on the uptake. But I'm feeling a pretty bad craving coming on. Hmmmmmm!

Let the Cat Out of the Bag

This is going to be a bag post. It is going to be made up of various bag-based anecdotes. Just to let you know...

Bag-based anecdote #1:

My lovely brown leather Russell & Bromley bag, you know, potentially-the-best-bag-ever-made? It broke. A very small metal pin has given way after many years of hard labour and so the leather handle is no longer attached to the rest of the bag. This makes it somewhat difficult to hang over my shoulder. And my heart bleeds.

Bag-based anecdote #2:

My lovely cotton Alphabet Bags cotton tote (with, imaginatively, an 'L' on it) is not taking the strain particularly well. It is mostly good for looking pretty while not overly stuffed but is now fraying wildly with the added pressure.

Bag-based anecdote #3:

I am working part time and don't have the sufficient funds to fritter away on a new baggage.

Bag-based anecdote #4:

My brand new housemate, of about two days, gave me two handbags last night. She was having a clear out and was going to throw them away. It was an extremely fortuitous event.

Bag-based anecdote #5:

Despite this extremely valid excuse to put aside my thoughts of buying a new handbag, as the necessity has been somewhat diminished, I saw this

(Via Net a Porter)

which is Marc by Marc Jacobs, and has teased my lust receptors into wanting it for my own. Annoyingly it is also painfully close to demanding a reasonable number of readies, which makes it so much harder to ignore.

And this

a Mulberry Bayswater, a bag that has never called my name Siren-like and with infinite allure. But now that it has a subtle leopard print? Oh yes! I want it bad! (Oops, I accidentally typed "I want it bag". How very apropos!) But it is less of a bargain and so poses little risk to my bank balance, just my heart.

Sigh!

Well anyway, there we go. Bags, huh? Can't live with 'em, can't carry all your stuff in your hands... Or something.

Distinguishing Marcs

(Image via style.com)

Oh no! I don't like brocade at ALL. It makes me think of curtains.

I don't even like it on a bag I'm afraid.

I do however think Marc Jacobs is HOT! (Probably something to do with the kilt knowing my sensibilities.)

Make your Marc

What do you make of the brocade trend? It has been floating around for a while. I think Miuccia might have started it a few seasons ago. I have been quite intrigued by it but always felt that it was a little too Tudors and Stewarts for my liking. A bit ornate, a bit garish.

But I saw a girl the other day wearing a brocade Marc Jacobs dress. I was initially drawn in thanks to her having this bag slung over her shoulder which I adore. (Before you start shouting at me, no, I am not thinking of buying it.)

My instinct would then be to wear a plainer outfit to let the bag relish all the attention, but she was wearing a dress (this style, I think, but the colours were very similar to those of the bag) that almost competed with it. I didn’t know where to look. The bag! The dress! The bag! Oh, the dress! It was like the sweetest torture.

There were quite a lot of other fashiony people in the vicinity but she was definitely one of the most notable people there. I think she might have worked for Marc Jacobs, though, so that probably helps. Lucky thing!

I take my hat off to you, Mr. Jacobs!

(Images via style.com)
I think this little boater is delightful. As soon as I saw it I wondered on a scale of one to certifiable how crazy I would look if I floated about town with one perched up top.

Then I saw one. Not the original, but one that has been "inspired" by it, and now I think I would probably look like Mary Poppins. Darn it! I can deal with crazy, but not with Julie Andrews.
