Miss Motivator

In these bleak economic times a girl needs a little motivation to get through the darker days, wouldn't you agree? A little something to bring a tiny ray of light into a girl's heart while she is schlepping around deep in the gloom resulting from the total annihilation of capitalism as we know it. Something that will help her realise that frugality and austerity are just passing phases and that she will live to see another day when unruly and ill considered spending will once again be the order of the day.

I am a hearty believer in the carrot rather than the stick. And what a carrot I have chosen for myself, I think you will be proud. I have decided that at the point at which I emerge, cleansed and reborn, into a world of renewed spendthriftiness, unscathed and unbowed, that I will treat myself to a pair of Lanvin shoes.

Can I Have The Bill Please?

In a word, no. VV Rouleaux yes, they're great for a ribbon, or a bit of stuff to stick to something else to make a new thing but her, I find a little grating. I saw her on the TV the other week refusing coyly to give away the secrets of her rolled fringe. As though she had come across and had to safe guard some Nobel worthy discovery. TEDIOUS!

If I had to choose out of the new people that the teens like, I'd have to go for La Roux. Her vocals are almost uncomfortably high pitched....she's almost reaching the level where only dogs can hear her....but her mum IS June off of The Bill. So, you know, that's a bit cool.

Geez, these celeb types don't muck around at this event, do they? After the beautiful people have been playing it increasingly safe on the red carpet I feared that the fashion renegades weren't up to it anymore.

This event has proven to me pretty comprehensively that they are still out there.

Kate In The Day

OK, this doesn't happen often, so you might want to savour the moment. I do not know what to think of this dress. And it isn't even that I am indifferent to it. In some pictures I hate it and in others I think it is charming. Maybe it is the combination of being a. quite dull and b. a bit too fleshy with the cut outs. And yet not particularly fleshy at the same time. More bony. Both Kate in this pic and Kate in this pic seem to have pectorals instead of breasts. And before you start shouting at me it is not the flatness that I object to, more that the chestal area looks overly muscled. Or is that just me?

I tell you what I do know, though, I really hate the gold one. Is that gathering at the waist? Ick. The shoes look as though they might mean business, but I will leave the dress to you. I would even let you lean against me if you wanted. And I would never talk ad nauseum about the Butterscotch Stallion.

Liv looks like an Amazon, I do really love her. And Stella! You think she looks ok? Are you quite mad?? She looks like a character in a Jackie Collins novel for God's sake. No wonder she can't support her own head, her brain is clearly dribbling out of her ear. It reminds me of what Kylie wore on a talent show a while back.

I hated that too.

Cute Hudson Head Rest!

Well! Knock me down and call me...Hayley! Why not? It's what Ann & Stevo had me christened and apart from the hugely comedic references to my own personal comet and the irritating fact that I suffer from the hellish HAYfever (arf arf) it's a perfectly sound name. So yeah! Call me that. And don't actually knock me down. Instead lets just sit quietly, grab our lattes and take a look at Kate Hudson.

NICE! I love this frock. Love love love. I want it. In fact, I want to wear it to the next wedding (we've got another one coming up in June...expect me to start debating what to wear to it any day now...won't THAT be fun?) She has had loads of criticism for it, but I think it's awesome. I have always found KH slightly bland and would much prefer a bit of Goldie. And then there's the love life, I mean FOR REAL? Owen, not Owen, Owen again blah blah ad infinitum. I have no interest. But suddenly I'm starting to question myself.

She also looked mega mega at the Costume-Really-Long- Title do. I ADORE this too. I want to be her NBFF and get a loan of that bad boy. I'm even prepared to listen to the on again off again Oweness. (Well, I'll look like I'm listening, whilst scanning her walk in wardrobe for more delicious finds.)

P.S. I think Liv Tyler might look ace here too, but can't quite work it out. I also don't mind Stella's outfit. She looks as though she might be doing a bit of a drunk lean against KH's HEAD there but I mean, hell! Who hasn't used a pal's skull as leaning post at some point? In fact Kate had better get used to that when we hook up...

Show Us Yer Titfer!

I agree with you about Madge. I quite like what she is wearing too. Although that might be because I am just relieved to see her wearing something that isn't a leotard.


Interestingly, while her head furniture reminds me of the Philip Tracey that graced SJP's head, I think that Madge looks a lot better with the crazy bird type thing perched on her noggin than Miss Parker did. Madge has never struck me as being particularly high fashion, so that is a pleasant surprise.

What I do not like, though, are her arms. A bit too Herb Ritts for my liking.

As to the others, I hate Liz's dress, I prefer Emma's though think it is a little bland, and am really alarmed by Sasha. Does that wrap it up?

Costume Change

Hahahhaha! You know what, I don't hate what Madonna wore to the Costume Institute Gala. The head...thing...I fancy it might start whirring at any moment like helicopter propellers and lift her up, up and away like a modern day Eros. It's insane but I prefer it to Liz's number.

I'm not sure if I love Sasha Pivovarova's get up or loathe it. It certainly looks as though the capeycoat would be comfortable to snuggle up in for a rest during the evening's more formal moments. And the jewels are mega.

And I love what Emma Hemming wore. Haven't the slightest inkling who she is, but, you know. Nice plunge.

Hair Suit

Hairy clothes scare me. I keep thinking Kate Moss is the tooth part of this particular teratoma.

Aggggh there are more. Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has made Sonia Rykiel's HEAD into a frock. I mean, there's praise, and there's hero worship and then there's your ACTUAL HEAD AS A FROCK. Hmmmm.

In fact her ability to inspire seems to be as contagious as The Swine. Hold on to your hats! I suspect more clothes-complete-with-tresses will be heading our way.

Dear Dorothy

What is it with us and Dorothy Perkins at the moment? She doesn't half keep cropping up. Weird! You don't hear a peep for years and now it's Dorothy this, Dorothy that...

I like that bag. I can't tell how big it is or how potentially offensive the pleather straps may be, but as you've seen it in the real I take it you've settled both of those issues in your mind. The colour is also good. Just remember to transfer Oyster cards / purses etc if you're going to be working an alternative bag.

Oddly enough I was clearing out my old bags at the weekend and found a rather fabulous bright turquoise leather job, which I bought years ago. I think I love it and it's BIG. Not big enough to kill me though. I'm not crazy!

Sac a Main

I think you are probably very aware that since I got my glorious Hayden Harnett bag that the thing has barely been off my shoulder. And in some ways I am inclined to keep it perched up there until it is no more. But I have a couple of concerns. Will I limit its life by carrying it every live long day? Will I be able to cope following its demise? Will I ever be able to carry a bag that isn't quite so big and with so many useful pockets? The one (I kid you not) day since getting it last October that I didn't use it, and experimented with my previous favourite, I lamented its absence all day. I worry that I am getting too dependent and you know how I am about dependence. Yes, it is a dirty word round my gaff.

So maybe I need to seek out more options. Weirdly, while shopping for clothes for a bump (my sister's, not my own) I found this in Dorothy Perkins, and I rather like it. It is quite small but not ridiculously so, and reasonably priced, so possibly ideal for a little experimentation. You know, just in case I wear it only once and then run back to the HH like a little girl running back to mummy after her first day at school.
