Cold Comfort

Man alive! Why do comfortable shoes that do your feet some good rather than irreparable damage have to be so damn ugly?

All I want is a pair of comfortable shoes that will go with my look. IE not be hideously, hideously ugly.

Is that too much to ask?

The Duchess of Cambridge met the Obamas at Buck House today in a Reiss dress. The Reiss website has crashed. Do you think these two things are connected?!

It seems that Kate will continue to be an inspiration to many (or their wardrobes at least).

I think she looks lovely in it, but I can't say I would want to wear something that had worn so publicly by someone else. Would you?

Desert Island

Gah! It looks like it is going to be baking hot but stormy and wet in New York. This is not a good meterological combo for me.

So my main dilemma is footwear. Would a desert boot work? Cute with corduroys and dresses, no? Plus if I spray them up good they should keep my feet relatively dry.

Yup, I've convinced myself, so off I go. Plus I like the aqua colour rather than a more conventional tan.

I have to admit I am pretty slow on the uptake. Anthropologie has been on Regent Street for about a year and a half, and yet I've only just ventured in.



I'm not sure if I lack imagination for trying new things or if it's whimsical schtick just isn't my cup of tea.



It is the sister company of Urban Outfitters and it definitely has a similar feel with clothes and homewares. But while the homewares in Urban Outfitters always seemed a bit of an after thought here they are much better quality and more interesting.



Admittedly alot of the clothes are quite "ethnic" feeling. I for one am not interested in wearing a gathered, embroidered peasant blouse. But there are plenty of nice dresses that don't feel quite as country.



It is really a shop to explore. Take your time and discover all the interesting bits and bobs they have.



The fitting rooms are enormous and there is no limit on how many items you take in and the staff are properly helpful.



Plus, possibly my favourite thing... there is no time limit on returns. While so many shops seem to be limiting the returns period to 14 days or making it exchange or credit note only (yes, Reiss, I am talking to you) it is so nice to find a company that is bucking that trend. So well done them.



It does feel slightly gimmicky, as it always did with Urban Outfitters. But it does it so much better, so I think I can get used to that.



And they have a really interesting mix of little known designers that you would be hard pressed to find in many shops. The only thing I would say would be to turn down the national dress vibe and include a few more classics and they will have reached pretty close to perfection.

Big Fish in a Small Pond

I'm off to New York next week for my birthday weekend. Yay! I'd quite like a smaller bag to take with me. I think I am currently damaging myself by lugging around half my life in my handbag. I think this is quite cute. Or is it a bit safe? I had a similar coloured bag from H&M many moons ago which has since died a death, but it was perfect for summer. It really went with everything. And this one would do the same. Plus it's got loads of compartments. And lord knows I love a compartment. I think I might have to have it.

It's a Cinch

When you have a figure like mine you develop a serious crush on waist belts. There is almost no item of clothing that cannot be vastly improved on a curvy frame by severely cinching it in.

Tragically the waist belt I use the most is one that came with a Reiss dress. It has been worn infinitely more often than the dress itself. But it was only a cheapy little thing and it is on its way out no matter how much hope I hold out for it.

Stupidly I looked at Net a Porter. You know, just to see what's out there. And what's out there is heaven. Little expensive hoops of heaven.
