Fill Your Boots

It's a bit damp outside so I don't feel as though I am, ahem, raining on anyone's summer parade by talking about the autumn winter collections.

One of my first obsessions is the Celine boot. Aren't they heaven? Particularly the thigh high pairs. Although lord knows quite how tiny your thigh would have to be to fit into this luxury leather prison.

Prep School

(Image via Harvey Nichols)

I don't want to dwell on this, because my heart is a little broken, but I need to share a quick tale with you.

Do you remember that I treated myself to the Prada Baroque sunglasses? I loved them so much and really thought I might never need another pair of sunglasses again. But in my idiocy I put them down for a second in a shop and by the time I had realised my error some *@@&*! *@$$$!!^& had made off with them. There is no point in dwelling on it, lest to say that I hope something terrible befalls them to make up for them being a moral free thieving @&$!@*£.

So I am in the market for a pair of sunglasses, and sadly, the pair that I have lost my heart to are this pair called Preppy by Celine. I just love the roundness, and I think I would love them forever. Except I obviously can only buy dirt cheap ones from now on because I can't trust people to be honest myself not to lose them.

This Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze

I have been admiring the Celine Trapeze bag in magazines but I saw it in the flesh over the weekend, and swoon! it is now a love thing! It is so beautiful I can barely contain myself. Plus these real life shots show just how incredible it looks in various finishes and with various different styles. Could there possibly be anything more delightful?

White Knuckle Ride

Having steered away from my beloved colour this season I was pretty sure I would be right back with it for spring/summer. And there are some seriously bright colours out there, and colour blocking. Eeek! So exciting!

So the suggestion of white was going to have to work pretty hard to lure me away. And you know what? It has.

When I saw Kirsten Dunst in her white dress above I lost my heart. Sure, it might be ever so slightly nurse-like, but I can live with that. It is just so awfully pretty.

Then there is Celine:

Rocking the white in quite a clinical way. Might be a little too hardcore for me. I'm looking for something a bit softer.

Which Chloe is definitely on the way to supplying.

There is nothing more romantic than skipping around in summer with a lovely white dress on, is there?

Ahhh! I can feel the warmth on my skin already.

With a lovely pair of flat sandals and a straw hat, cloth tote and some pretty, delicate gold jewellery.

But the white I like the most has to be from Dolce & Gabbana. While their black lace dresses are far too sexy for my comfort zone. But they are transformed in white. So much sweeter and prettier.

Gosh, aren't they lovely?

I could faint clean away.

Hmmm, for once I might actually be looking forward to summer fashion.

Will wonders never cease?

Except now I have truly the impossible to achieve - wearing white and not spilling on it. It's not that I am particularly mucky but I can't keep from dribbling down a white top for love nor money. I don't know what it is.

So, New Year's resolution number 1: LEARN NOT TO SPILL!

Let's Get Minimal (Minimal)

Life can be surprising, can't it? You can peruse all the magazines. Make a decision about what look you are going to hit up for the season. In my case it was the forties/land girl look. Florals and knitwear, a charming combination of pretty and practical aided by lashings and lashings of red lippie. And then venture out to buy whatever fits the bill.

Only to find yourself utterly drawn to something else entirely. And not just that, but to more or less the polar opposite.

Yes, we're talking minimal. Now I had read the magazines, I had heard the fuss, but honestly it didn't occur to me for a second that this was a look for me. For the last two years I have been dressing in as much colour as your average children's tv presenter (although with infinitely more style, I would hope). But not any more. Now these are my watch words: pared down, simple, minimal, tonal, neutral. Would you Adam and Eve it?

No, me neither quite frankly. I thought I had a winter of berry colours and floral prints ahead of me. But what actually stands before me are months of camel, navy, grey, white and black, and absolutely no pattern. Structural shapes and no flounce. And trousers no less. What a novelty!

Pretending to be Freja Beha Erichsen in Celine. Hmmm, should I go brunette too?

It is a properly grown up look, and I just can't wait! (More details on the specifics of what I have bought to follow...)
