Back to Black

All I want to do at the moment is find the perfect pair of black jeans/trousers as the basis of my autumn winter wardrobe. I have very much fallen in love with my James Jeans Hunter so I might get those in black and wear them every day.

And for the days where I will have to be freed of them for the laundry I also like these NYJD jeggings and Toast's black cords.

Last Legs

(Image via H&M)

Yay! It has finally happened. I have found a pair of patterned trousers that look cute on me. And they were cheap.

Thank you H&M!

Skin Deep

 Christopher Kane

Did you read about that survey that showed the cause of most women's buyers remorse was the leather trouser? Yes, they are a tricky beast at the best of times. My thighs though ensure that I will never even attempt to make the plunge.

I think the right pair of pins and the right pair of trews can be great in combination, but I don't think any pair of legs would look good in any of these.

Seriously, they are all hideous. Particularly the wide leg pairs.

Hit the Road, Jacq

 3.1 Philip Lim

I am crushing really hard on jacquard cigarette cut trousers. Aren't they a delight. A little showy and interesting but not over the top. If I could find a pair that would fit me I would be in them like a shot.

For the most part I find chinos quite dull. But in dusky pink? Sigh! Simply heaven!

All Mouth and No Trousers

Alberta Ferreti

Very much in love with wide legged patterned trousers for summer. Statement dressing that is as easy to wear as this doesn't come along too often.

Although, saying that, with my non too long pins maybe they wouldn't be so easy. But in my fantasy life I'm going to look really great in these (particularly the YSL pair).

Fly by the Seat of Your Pants

My place of employ goes in for dress down Fridays. And while I have partaken of the joys of denim once or twice I have to confess that I have something of a mental block about dressing down at work. Annie and I used to prefer dress up Fridays. Which is very much a concept that I can subscribe to.

But where I am now the only way is casual. And I do see the appeal of being comfortable at work. Particularly at mine where I am up and down stairs and basically doing manual labour with all the heavy lifting.

And so I'm thinking compromise. Maybe not jeans, maybe a nice pair of trousers that I can dress up or down as necessary. The pair of work trousers that I bought from Wallis are so ugly I can barely look them in the face. But what about one of these pairs? Cute with a smartish top and a pair of white Converse or Superga plimsolls.

I know that would be the sensible option. So why am I craving this heavenly pair from Karen Millen. Equally cute with a plimsoll, but maybe not quite so practical, huh?

It's not Easy Being Green

(Image via Toast)

I am becoming borderline obsessed with owning something green. It is just a colour that is immediately going to breath summer into my wardrobe. And right now I really need that. A boost of colour that these trousers from Toast would deliver. The shape looks a bit tricky though. Fingers crossed that they will work for me and that all my dreams will come true. Well, at least the ones about, um, green stuff.

Drop Trou

(Image via 3: Eleven Boutique)

You will be shocked. Seriously, I'm not kidding. And possibly apalled. For as long as you have known me I have been a woman who spends, oh, about 99% of her time in a dress or skirt. But things, I fear, are changing. I am spending my days at my new job trundling up and down stairs with arms full of files. And you know what doesn't go with that? A pencil skirt. And actually skirts of most descriptions.

So I think I will have to admit defeat. Suck it up and buy some trousers.

I know. I can barely stand to think of it myself. I went into M&S the other day and tried on about 15 pairs all to very little outcome. And it reminded me exactly why I stopped wearing trousers in the first place. They just don't suit me. I have a generous bottom and thighs and I'm not overly tall. All things which make buying trousers a perverse form of sartorial torture.

I'm not sure if it is really worth the effort...

Either that or I might have to treat myself to a pricier pair that fit really nicely. As I recall Reiss might provide something that'll work.

Miss Scarlet in the Library with the Lead Piping

(Via Style.com)

Ever since seeing Isabel Marant's red leather trousers the idea of coloured cropped trousers has been tickling my fancy. Of course my thighs and red leather were never going to make a great couple. So I put the thought out of my head.

Until I saw these by Zara. The colour is heaven and the fabric and shape I imagine are infinitely more forgiving.

I used to own a pair of fuschia velvet trousers from Karen Millen which I adored. I think I am ready to go lairy on the bottom half again. Elle suggested teaming with a neutral colour top.

(Via Elle)

And I love the colour, but they also suggested nude shoes. Hmmmm, not so much. So I think I might prefer to team it with a black sweater and black flat pumps instead. Do you think it will work?

All Mouth and No Trousers

Was I mistaken when I believed all the hoo ha about "the return of the trouser"? Because I want to dive right into this hoo ha and get myself all trousered up. Up to, you know, the waist.

But I am at a loss. Because there doesn't seem to be a wealth of trousers on the high street. I heard ravings about the trouser collection from Gap. But when I went to explore found them slightly dull and with very limited fabric options. For me pinstripe is never an option.

(Via Whistles)

So if I want a straight leg, ankle-length smart trouser, rather than a peg or a harem, etc., where am I meant to look?

(Via Style)

And don't even get me started on how lacking the high street is on the Gucci-esque evening trouser. (Not that I would ever be likely to wear them, I am far too enamoured of a cocktail dress.) But disgraceful nonetheless.
