The Truth Wills Out

I don't like the whole Jack Wills schtick. And I don't think Aubin & Wills is much better, but certainly more expensive. So I don't know if I should publicise that I love these. And would happily wear them if it wouldn't make me a total hypocrite.

There's Method in it

What is it with previously demure actresses stripping off for GQ when they have vaguely risque films to promote.

Don't get me wrong, Keira and Michelle both look amazing, but it just doesn't seem like them. They are both quite reserved dressers. Not boring or uptight, but certainly elegant or interesting over sexy.

And suddenly here they are in their undercrackers.

It isn't as though they aren't famous enough and need to get them out for publicity. What other reason can there be?

Naked as the Day I was Born

I am wearing the most darling pale yellow dress to my friend Amelia's wedding in South Africa in a couple of months. Pairing it with an off white blazer that I just happened by in Comptoir des Cottonniers. I couldn't help it, it was love at first sight.
So now I have just one dilemma. What shoes to wear. I am really over the nude shoe. I think they have died a death. Killed, I'm afraid, but the Royal Family's dependence on them. If it's alright for them, it almost certainly isn't alright for me.

So I thought grey. And it does seem as though it might be a mini trend because they are quite a few options about. I tried on the top two from Kurt Geiger which were lovely. But the slingbacks wanted to hurl me out of them, just not secure and very, very high.

And the top pair wanted to cut my foot in half. Even in the shop where I wore them for about two minutes. So I said no to them. And that's what stated me thinking. Hey! I've had a though! What about being comfortable?

Revolutionary, I know. But how about it? Would it actually be possible to wear a pair of heels that didn't make you want to slice your own feet off?

So, do you know what I did? I went to Clarks. Home of the comfortable shoe. And I found all these treasts.

So, sure, they aren't Nicholas Kirkwoods, but they aren't hideous either. And can you imagine just how comfortable I would be in them.

I could stand around and dance and be happy all evening. I won't even know myself.

And I think what I might compromise in style I would more than make up for in enjoying myself because I wouldn't spend half the evening tottering around trying not to go over on an ankle.

I know this isn't the sort of talk you expect from me, but, hell, I'm getting old, and having happy feet makes for a happy me. And who can argue with that?

Hard Act(or) to Follow

Welcome to Lucinda's Rapid Reviews at the SAG Awards. Drum roll please...

Ashlee Simpson

I hate the netting and the dress is kinda dull for something covered in sequins/beading. Cute hair though.

Stacey Kiebler

Cute enough, her figure looks great but not wildly exciting.

Sofia Vergara

Great colour and draping.

Amber Heard

Love the shape at the top and the cut outs. Not so sure about what's happeing below the knee. Too much fabric. She looks great in black.

Angelina Jolie

Is that pleather? Hmmm, no.

????

Sorry young lady, I don't know who you are. But if it is any consolation I love your dress.

Berenice Bejo

She is charm personified. But her dress is boring.

Emily Blunt

The shape of this dress doesn't wow me. But the colour is so utterly stunning that I would forgive her anything.

Bijou Phillips

My eyes! This is so hideous I don't even know where to start. I don't think there are many places this would be ok but the red carpet sure as hell isn't one of them.

Jessica Chastain

The colour is lovely but the shape really does nothing for her, unless it was meant to make her look boxy. In which case, as you were.

Diane Lane

Glorious lady. Blah dress.

Diana Agron

Lovely colour, don't like the frill and the shape doesn't seem entirely flattering. Where is her waist?

Emma Stone

Adorable in McQueen. Love, love, love the length.

Glen Close

She looks great but the dress is pretty dated and I hate the sleeves.

Heather Morris

 Hideous.

Jane Krakowski

Adorable. Such a great shape dress and the lingerie style insert really works. Hmmm, elegant and sexy. Very nicely done.

Judy Greer

I love this. So young and fresh and sweet. Might be a favourite.

Juliana Marguiles

She looks lovely but I don't think the dress is very interesting. Well, maybe the texture is but the shape and colour are yawnsville.

Julie Bowen

Lovely colour but the shape is weird, particularly the heaviness of the shoulders.

Kelly Osbourne

Why is Kels trying to bleach the colour out of her life? Off-white hair and off-white dress is just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Kirsten Wiig

I hate the choker. Hate it so much I can't even think about the rest of it.

Kyra Sedgwick

Colour is lovely, shape is lovely, cutouts are lovely, ruined by wearing her hair down. OK, maybe not ruined, but definitely marred.

Lea Michele

For the love of god, woman, put it away!

Meryl Streep

So Meryl, you're great, and you look really happy, so I'm going to leave it at that.

Michelle Williams

Oh Michelle! My heart is about to burst clear out of my chest, full as it is with love for you in this outfit. Stunning. I almost forgive you for posing in your undies for a men's mag.

Octavia Spencer

The colour is terribly pretty, but it just looks as though she has a (admittedly very nice) towel wrapped round her waist. Which the last time I looked wasn't a great look for the red carpet.

Rose Byrne

Squeal! Love her hair! Squeal! Love her jumpsuit! The colour, the texture, the jumpsuity ness of it all. If only it was juast a hair shorter to see a smidge of shoe. You know, just so you know they are there.

Zoe Saldana

I do actually like this, but I wish the underneath looked marginally less like a wife beater. it is just a slightly strange combo.

Shailene Woodley

I went to see the Descendants the other day and Ms Woodley here was very good in it. I also spent much of the film jealous about what an amazing figure she has, so it seems a shame that she has hidden so much of it. I like the pattern though.

Tilda Swinton

Oh Tilda, you have disappointed me. This just isn't what you have led me to expect.

Tina Fey

Inoffensive but dull.
Viola Davis

Terribly pretty, I like the detail on the bodice and the staplessness really works for her.

The Green, Green Grass of Home

I urgently need to get some colour into my wardrobe. I realise that I am following a similar path to the one I did a few years ago and I need to make it stop. For my own well being. It went something like this:

- Wasn't feeling great about myself

- Started putting on weight

- Started wearing lots of black and dark clothes

- Started wearing shapeless clothes

- Felt worse about myself

- Ate some more...

You see where this is going. Well at that point I picked myself up, dusted myself off and booked myself a trip to the mountains, did lots of training, felt loads better about myself, got a bit thinner, felt loads better about myself, started wearing lots of colour and fitted clothes, felt on top of the world.

So I've done all the negative things on that list again and it is time to put a stop to that and put a more positive spin on things. And I think a lovely easy way to do that is with colour. So what about this Topshop number? Yes, I know it is shapeless but baby steps, you know?

The colour is heaven. I really love it. Less sure about the fussiness of the straps at the back, but chances are it will be covered by a cardigan to start with, so maybe that doesn't matter.

And talking about the cardigan, I've had my eyes on this one from M&S. It is bright and jolly but are the colours too similar? They definitely look so here, but in real life I remember the cardigan being a slightly bolder shade. Those two could work together without me looking as though I was turning into the hulk, couldn't they?
