What Recession?

These dresses are by Fyodor Golan. They are the design duo who won the Fashion Fringe last year. So they are obviously ones to watch.

So I imagine, as someone who likes fashion, that I should voice this opinion. But I just don't like these dresses. Not at all.

Then the fact that the cheapest of them is £1,700 and the most expesive just shy of £6k, just makes me feel a little queasy.

And seriously, what's the obsession with the mullet? Let's just not, huh?

'Ear 'Ear, What's All This Then?

Aurelie Bidermann

I am thinking about buying a great statement pair of earrings for the weddings I'm going to. In my dreams it would be one of these pairs. In reality it won't be. (Sniff!)

That I'll Grant You

(Image via Style.com)

Isn't this simply the most divine coat that you have ever seen?

I own it.

Possibly not for much longer but currently it is in a large Liberty bag on the floor of my room. Isn't it the most?

Mad as a Box of Cheetahs

(Image via Net a Porter)

I know it is only August, but I read something recently that said that most of the good winter coats are bought in August (admittedly it was probably written by a retailer to enduce a shop-bound panic - guess who's fallen for that. Fool!)
So anyway, I thought "What the hay, I'll look at Net a Porter." Well, actually I looked at To'sho' first but there really wasn't anything of merit there in the coat department. So while I was on Net a Porter I was surprised to find that at the bottom of the first of two pages of coats we were already into the thousands. So I questioned how much would the most expensive coat be. You know, just for larks. Don't tell me I don't know how to have fun.
And do you know what I found? Well, you probably do. The clue is probably as clear as the nose on your face. Isn't it? So, yes, you are quite right, it was the calf-hair cheetah-print Michael Kors balmacaan (a loose single-breasted overcoat, apparently) that you see above. And the cost?
£11,695.
I kid you not.
Recession? What recession?
It's not even cute.

Gee up!

It is called a saddle bag. It is from Russell & Bromley. It is tan coloured, wrought out of the most delicious buttery soft leather. Swoon! The shape is great, I do really love it. But there are a couple of issues, one being that tan probably isn't the perfect colour for my current wardrobe. You know, with all the colour and all.

I popped out at lunch just to have a look. I didn't mean to come away with a bag. I meant to look around a bit more. I don't really know what happened. It just spoke to me. Like a siren. It was awfully persuasive.

But I have to have a new bag. My purple one (which I love almost more than life itself) is going to damage me. It is so mammoth and I am hefting around so much that it is only a matter of time before I put my back out. And that would not be cool.

There is no picture to be had of it. I think I need to show it to you in the flesh. You can help me decide if it should go back or not. I find myself a bit torn...

Some time later... Dilemma over - I took it bag. Oop! Freudian slip! I took it BACK...!

Note to self: Let's not do that again, huh?

A Glass Half Full

First of all, can I just say how queasy Elt's specs make me every time I look at them? I am keen to get them as far down the page as possible. Bleaugh.

OK, so they're both utterly charming and I imagine the ones you really like are too. I think prescription sunnies are a very good idea in theory but not for me. My myopia means that the lenses actually end up costing about as much as a two door run around before I even get to the frames so it's just not financially viable. But it's going to be a hot sunny summer apparently so why not? The you can wear yours and I can wear my cheapo ones and be as blind as a bat and you can guide me about like a troublesome elderly aunt wearing your posho ones. Nice!

Whilst we're here shall we discuss the half tints. Now it's not often I don't like something that An Olsen wears but I'm not mega mega about them. Although she does look quite lovely in that picture. But you know, in general. But whilst looking for a pic of those I found this. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!

You've got to hand it to Mr Lagerfeld. He has taken a simple school dinner tray with the compartments for vegetables, main and pudding and taken it to a whole other briefcase level. I LOVE! Your glasses would SO be safe in there dude.

Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me

Tee, hee! Just as I am writing this the sun is breaking through the clouds. Nice work Reg!

As delicious as his outfit undoubtedly is what I have actually come to discuss is sunglasses. More specifically designer sunglasses. I am the kind of girl who balks at spending much more than £15 on a pair, because I have a tendency to leave them scattered around the country. Or surrender them to the torture that is the bottom of my bag with nary a cloth baglet for protection and then get annoyed when the are scratched to oblivion.

So spending over £100 alarms me slightly. Except that I found the most perfect pair in Alexander McQueen and I am considering it. Maybe I could even get them prescriptioned up to ensure that I have to look after them and so I can, you know, see.

I have a sneaking suspicion you might tell me that I should get down to some cheap boutique and part with my £15 and stop being so dashed foolish.

Neither of these pairs are the ones I like, but cute all the same.

Confession

(Image via Liberty)

I fear that I have not been entirely honest with you. For while I did not put all my eggs in a Luella cocktail dress shaped basket I have put rather a lot of eggs in an Antonio Berardi dress shaped basket.

But isn't it just the most beautiful dress? The picture makes it look grey, but it is actually a simply delicious blue.

The back looks like this (not white, but I couldn't find a pic of mine from the back):

(Image via Browns)

It is quite demure and covered up but then super fitted and with the jelly that I got, BADDA BING, BADDA BOOM! Let me tell you!

I will now go ahead and justify the expense by saying:

1) It is love. Not the fleeting school girl kind but always and forever.

2) It is not a one season piece, it does not defer to a trend, it will not go out of fashion.

3) The colour goes beautifully with my skin tone.

4) The shape is insane on me.

5) I have been on the earth for thirty years and that is something that should be commemorated with a purchase.

6) It has earned me a £15 voucher at Liberty.

7) I am supporting the economy.

8) It is not so flashy, or so formal that I wouldn't be able to wear it frequently.

9) The colour lends itself to both winter and summer wear.

10) It is love. Not the fleeting school girl kind but always and forever. See?...!

11) My heart leaps in my chest every time I think of it and a big cheesy grin breaks out on my face.

So I know that I didn't heed your advice, not really, and I didn't consider not having anything to wear when it is OPT (Official Park Time) or if I did I paid it no mind, but I am emotionally fragile right now (as you know with the whole swearing at children debacle) and I think this is the perfect restorative measure. It is like the thirty year old woman's version of mummy or daddy kissing it better. Is that ok? Will you forgive me? If it makes you feel better I have absolutely no buyer's remorse, I just feel that I had to own it and now that I do I am very, very happy.

This bag is small, but this bag is far away...

Oh, pish! Don't you just hate a website that won't allow you to save their images? It is awfully frustrating. Particularly when all you want to do is sing their praises.

I adore this bag. It makes me want to weep ever so gently. When I saw it I think I might have gasped quite audibly and my heart might have soared. I only wish that you could see it more clearly. Actually, hold the phone, why don't I do a link to it? Clever me!

Unfortunately it costs a ridiculous amount of money. But if I was foolishly rich I would buy it in an instant.
