Is it just me or does this Miu Miu skirt look as though it has been fashioned from school boys' ties?

For the Sheer Heck of it

I'm not entirely sure who Harley Viera Newton is but I know she always looks fabulous. And in a feminine and natural kind of way which I aspire to. So while sheer panels would not suggest demure femininity to me, Ms Newton (or Viera Newton???) has proven it possible. I want to copy and Topshop has kindly obliged with this skirt which I love. Think I could carry it off?

Raise Your Skirt

Harrumph!

My trousers mission has officially failed.

My arse + trousers = happiness is not an equation that exists outside my vivid fantasy life, apparently.

So I'm hot footing it back to the safety of the land of skirts as fast as my chunky little legs can carry me.

Maybe there are things that are worth sticking with. Even if it is the new year and I want to:

Eat more healthily

Lose some weight

Get fit

Be more organised...

All these things need to change but wearing skirts can stay the same.



Mid-Life Crisis

Since Keira wore this Roksanda Illincic dress I have been totally lusting after this mid-length pencil style skirtage. It is so incredibly elegant.

I was already feeling mid-length, but the pleated, floaty ballerina style. The pencil style is defintely more severe. But I'm ready for it.

Amy Adams aslo worked it in a slightly more saucy version.

For real life I think a dark boucle pencil from Hobbs would be just perfect.

I just need to make sure I get one that isn't too tight in the knee so that I can walk up stairs in it.

But super cute, no? With a floaty, feminine blouse. Perfect for the office I say.

I am really enjoying the proportions of Victoria's outfit. That length with the knee high boot. Perfection. I'd probably choose a sleeve, to go all out demure. But even without I think it's awfully cute.

Can a girl have two many midi pleated skirts? I adore my mink coloured one from Whistles, and now this one has caught my eye and I want it. I'm trying to fool myself that I could wear it to interviews too to justify buying it. But it probably isn't right for that.

I absolutely adore the proportions at work here. I have never considered a crop top for myself as I have absolutely no inclination to flash my less than toned belly flesh, but with something underneath and a high waisted midi skirt, I think it looks amazing.

Plus I am more jealous than I can say of her top knot, but I'm trying to reign it in.

Is it completely ridiculous to buy two Whistles skirts in the same week that are almost identical?

I now have my sights on this one. Longer and mink not pink.

In the shop they had it styled with a very feminine denim shirt and leopard print skinny belt. Swoon! It looks amazing. I've got it held and am just waiting till I can leave work to try it on. Eeek! So exciting.

I was thinking that I could try and rock it with a loafer. Or does a short girl + midi absolutely have to have a heel with no exceptions? In which case a platform would look fabulous.

A Well-Turned Calf

So what are your thoughts on the mid-calf length skirt?

I think I might find it quite charming. But in a harking back to my middle class "let's put on a Barbour and wellies and go for a nice walk in the countryside" childhood kind of way.

The reality of it might not be that pretty.

Is it too poshos with horsey faces braying over what a jolly good show it all is? And terribly unflattering? Honestly, I don't have too much leg length to shout about already, would it be an awful mistake to hide myself with so much cloth?

Because actually, honestly, what I really think of when I think of mid-calf is my first day of secondary school when I was drowning in my school uniform that was bought to last out my years of growing so it wouldn't have to be bought again. Until, that is, my classmates and I were set upon, en masse, by the girls in the year above who grabbed our skirts and rolled and rolled and rolled them up until our skirts grazed our buttocks and we had a rubber ring's worth of tweed bunched up around our waists. And those are days, sartorially speaking, that I don't particularly want to revisit.
