A Slip of a Thing

When Victoria Beckham arrived at the men's Wimbledon final in a slip I have to admit I wasn't entirely convinced.

Yes, it was a Louis Vuitton slip, part of its autumn winter lingerie/nightwear inspired collection, but it was still a slip. Very pretty but definitely not for me. I would hardly consider such an item suitable for the boudoir let alone a bar.

But the more I look at the Louis Vuitton collection the more I am drawn to it.

But how to make it wearable in real life?

Because I will absolutely not be copying any of these looks, even though I like their flavour.

I think I have discovered the solution - the camisole. A nod to the underwear trend without being too suggestive. Plus I think a little plain black camisole over jeans is super elegant. There is just something very appealing about an exposed clavicle and shoulder with just the whisper of a strap.

Equipment

I am very tempted. What about you? Tempted to make underwear outerwear this season?

I have long been a lover of Danish brand By Malene Birger. I was lucky enough to snap up one of their dresses in a Net a Porter sale many moons ago.

So it gives me no end of joy (and no slight pangs) to see just how insanely great their current collection is.

I pretty much want the lot. Including the figure to rock this double be-striped pencil, crop top combo. Sigh!

Strait-Laced

I have to be frank with you. I just don't know about lace. It seems great, and fun and lovely, but I think it might talk about me behind my back, I think it might try and make me look bad.

Because try as I might to make friends with it I fear it cheapens me.
Right now you can barely move for another picture of Kristen Stewart at a premier in a lace dress. And she (for the most part) looks good in them.

Despite that I was listening to my hard won anti-lace stance until I saw this divine By Malene Birger dress in a sweet boutique in Bath. I love it. Particularly as the lace back doesn't show flesh through it, which I think is part of my problem with lace. You know in that it looks like you are covered in spider's webs.
In fact that might be the source of my fear of lace. I had a lace trimmed dressing gown when I was younger and one day when I thought the lace cuff was scratching me I looked down to discover a spider hanging out. I wasn't best pleased, I can tell you.

So is it time to get over my phobia? I'm not afraid of spiders anymore so maybe I could give lace a chance too.

I am loving all of these other By Malene Birger lace numbers.
Or is it best left for the likes of Kristen? Hmmm, tricky.

J'adore Joanie!

(Image via net-a-porter.com)

Is this fabulously frivolous and fun and flirty and all good words starting with F? Or is it something that Joan Collins might have rocked over an ice cold martini in Mustique in the seventies? And as charming as she would undoubtedly have looked in it maybe the item itself has a definite time and place and should have be left there in a fondly decadent seventies bubble?

Oh, if I can redeem myself in any way, I do think the bag is vile.
